In 1969 production ceased for the Hasbro Dolly Darlings dolls, so all remaining stock was put on the market.  This may explain why some dolls have variations in clothing, etc.  However, when you find a mismatched or non-typical doll, it maybe that a child played with the doll and changed the head or clothes, as these dolls are difficult to redress due to the ballerina like arm pose.
