Skipper Doll <1971-1976>, 1964-1970

Skipper is 9 1/4" tall and is Barbie's little sister.  She made her market debut in 1964 along with the Allan doll. Over the years of production Skipper changed with the times, not quite as much as Barbie - but certainly not without her own controversy.

1069 Skipper Sun Set Malibu 19711069 Skipper Sun Set Malibu (1971-1972)

Suntan skin, long straight blonde hair, bangs, twist waist, bend knees, painted eyelashes, two piece orange tricot swimsuit, blue towel, & sunglasses.

1069 Skipper Sunset Malibu (1973-1974)

Doll same as 1972, New mark: changed; Made in Japan to - Made in Korea.

 

1069 Skipper Sun Set Malibu (1975)

Doll same as 1974, new white box, no towel or sunglasses, rest the same as 1973-74.

 

1069 Skipper Sun Set Malibu (1976-1977)

Doll same as 1975, new rose box.

 

There is a also a Japan only version of the Malibu Skipper who was called Skipper Sun Sun, same blonde sun tanned doll, orange swimsuit, but packaging is written in Japanese.

1179 Skipper Pose N Play Gift Set (1972-1973)

Included a Swing A Rounder Gym in orange & pink plastic, doll is exclusive to this set, waist, head, elbows and legs are posable, doll has shorter hair in shoulder length pigtails either strawberry or HTF pale blonde, two piece blue solid & blue, white check bibbed playsuit.

1179 Skipper Pose N Play (1973)

Same doll as above, only sold as a "baggie" in a clear plastic bag, stapled on cardboard header.  This was a method to move old store stock. Same markings as above doll.

4223 Quick Curl Skipper (1973-1975)

Long blonde hair with metal fibers that allow hair to be curled and stay that way, long blue & blue, white checked dress, short sleeved, black ribbon bow at waist, included are a pink comb, brush, curling wand, yellow & blue hair ribbons, 2 white metal barrettes, Taiwan white flat shoes, and booklet.  Two types of packaging; (shown) carded with a clear bubble or a (HTF & higher value) orange box with clear cello, and folded flap to view contents.

9428 Deluxe Quick Curl Skipper (1976-1977)

Same doll as above, new pink box, new pink maxi dress, white crocheted shawl, pink comb, brush, white bead necklace, blonde tie on fall wig, same barrettes & ribbons, pink flat shoes.

521-16038 Chocho Chan or Butterfly Skipper (1974-1975)

Chocho was not referred to as a friend of Barbie or Skipper, but does use the Skipper Deluxe Quick Curl body and hair.  Came in blonde, brunette or titian pigtails.  Wore either a red or hot pink satin dress, orange flats and had cardboard yellow wings that a child could wear in her hair, additional accessories were; pink comb brush & curler, green & yellow hair ribbons and 2 white barrettes.

7259 Growing Up Skipper (1975-1977)

One of the most controversial dolls in 1975, just about every newspaper in the U.S.A. carried a story about her, some women's groups & a few parents wrote to complain, but with sales expected at 1 1/2 million, the doll must go on to market.  She's 9" tall, long platinum or reddish blonde hair, curled end flip. "She's Two dolls in One" when you turn the left arm she grows a modest bust line, slimmer waist and becomes 3/4" taller. (turning the arm back again reverts to the previous shape doll).  Included are a red headband, red body suit, blue collar, blue scarf, red socks, red flats, white platform shoes, two red, white plaid skirts, one short, one long.

8519 Skipper Twist 'n Turn Europe (1972-1973)

Came in a blonde or brunette, has a twist waist, straight non-bending legs, wore a blue with white and pink flowers swimsuit with white attached little pleated skirt.

7193 Fun Time Skipper Europe (1974)

White box, clear window, similar to Sunset Malibu only with pink skin, heavy eye makeup, long straight pale blonde hair, yellow two piece tricot swimsuit.  Doll was only available in the European market.

8126 Skipper Bend Leg Europe (1974)

Has a twist waist and bendable legs, wore a two piece tricot navy swimsuit.

7379 Gold Medal Skipper (1975-1976)

White solid box, one piece red, white blue swimsuit, gold medal, straight long blonde hair.

9926 Party Time Skipper Europe (1976-1979)

Came in the hot pink box with partial front cello, wore a yellow satin party dress with lace and ribbon trim, has a twist waist but her legs do not bend and are of a soft vinyl Came with pale blonde rooted hair.  Marked:  © Mattel Inc./1967/Philippines.
