
1978 Cabbage Patch "Little People" Billie Sue doll

Cabbage Patch dolls were created by Xavier Roberts
in 1977 and delivered in the fictional Babyland Hospital in Cleveland Georgia.
These "Little People" cloth stuffed dolls were available to prospective new
parents for a fee. In exchange they received a Little People hand stitched
and
signed doll; adoption papers, birth certificate
and name tags.
By 1982 Coleco was granted licensing to mass produce
the dolls who were renamed Cabbage Patch Kids and were stamped;

ca. 1983 Danbury Mint (a division of MBI, Inc.) made Cabbage Patch Kids doll
with porcelain heads and cloth bodies marked MSD plus a number, also Olympikids
& copies of U.S. Presidents.
ca. 1985 Applause, Inc. (a division of Wallace Berrie & Company) also made
Cabbage Patch dolls with porcelain heads and cloth bodies, these may be marked
with a number on back of neck or unmarked and came with a hang tag. |
